I'm about 165-170 pounds and 5'6, am I too heavy to wakeboard or will it set me back alot? (even if I'm active)

Also, is there a big difference in using a regular boat as compared to a wake boarding boat?

  1. when i first read this question I thought i was going to read that you weighed 400 lbs or something. 170 is so not a problem. The energy from the water is where you get your lift jumping off the wake. the water can only do so much, which means at your weight things are good. if you did weigh 400 then you'd be asking way to much from the water! wake board boats give an advantage in that they have the tower, balast tanks, speed control...fluff things. as long as you have enough HP to pull you up then you can modify and get creative adding the weight to enhance your wake. Speed control is sweet, but you cant really drive a double up effective with the speed control set. learning to drive for a boarder makes you a better boarder and driver.

  2. No, you can wakeboard at that height/weight.

There is not much difference in the boats besides the tower.  To some people the tower helps a lot, but it isn't impossible to wake on a regular boat.  With the boats, its really personal preference.  I can get up on with a tower or without a tower, yet I prefer the tower because it pulls you up as opposed to straight.

You can find a board that works well with your height and weight.

    Have fun :]]

  3. you can be 300 + and stand up and wake...

170 is an average weight for a human being.  Why would you think you're too heavy?

Coordination and balance is key for this sport, not your weight.
