  1. Depending on your frame size 5’5” and 97lbs. It may be considered underweight.  I would not say it is grossly underweight.  But, it may be enough to cause concern if you are losing weight due to all the activity levels you maintain.

I am not a doctor but based on the BMI you should be around 110 lbs.  To be considered at the bottom end of normal weight.  That does not mean go out and binge.  It means you may have to look at eating more frequently to fuel your activity level.

If you are eating normally now and are not losing any weight then I would not sweat it too much.  But again your doctor is the best person to approach for advice.  I would suggest that you may want to add a snack maybe an hour before your training.  Also consider a recover type drink afterwards.  Running Guru John Stanton recommends a glass of chocolate milk as it has the correct Protein to Carbohydrate ration needed.

What you are looking for before your run is a quick carbohydrate hit.  So consider something like an apple and cheese, or ½ a Peanut butter sandwich.  That should do the trick nicely.

  2. It beats having a coach who wants you to lose weight when you don't need to, or pressuring you into being a stick.  I would listen to your coaches.  It's not like you're going to put on mega pounds.  They're concerned about you---that's a good thing.  Good luck!

  3. Those times get you into NATIONALS??? I don't know two much about girl times so I guess congradulations... I'm also entering my eigth grade year and I'm going to become a captain, and my coach took the other next year captain to the side with me who is like 2 lbs. and we discussed weight and he made it clear to eat alot but if you burn it off its ok just a long as you eat well

  4. I dont think 97lbs are bad for your age... nice times..

  5. just eat more... If your coach says you are underweight and you need to eat more, then you should follow what he says. I'm not sure, but 97 pounds does sound a bit underweight. If you doin't have enough fat, then your body will start taking away from your muscles to use as energy, or something like that, I'm not sure all about it. Just that you definitely need more calories. If you use them all up being active, eat more.

  6. well it's not unheathy as long as you are eating food because i am 4 10 and  way 82 pounds and when i run usually i drop down to like 77

  7. I suspect you'll grow the weight will come on.  Just keep an eye on it

  8. Not trying to be mean but I sense you may be using running as a type of bulimia.

Go see your doctor talk to some professionals and they will be able to help you by giving you an eating plan.
