my 12 week old westie, fenella, is energetic and playful...so she often hits her head on cabinets, tables, chairs and the floor when she plays. we are not rough with her, and neither are the dogs she plays with...she never acts hurt - just jumps back up and keeps playing! she is clever, well-exercised, and doing great with training...but it worries me! sometimes i can HEAR her little head hit something and i cringe:( ...is she just a clumsy puppy? i worry...

  1. it could be just puppy play. it depends how she is doing after she hits her head.

  2. It's fine :) My siberian husky used to hit into walls, tables, doors...and hard. He's now 7 months and for the most part has figured out to look where he's going now. I think it's just part of being a puppy and being so excited and distracted all the time. Plus they're still growing and figuring everything out. When my pup used to run into stuff I'd just laugh and say, "It's okay you don't have to be smart when you're pretty." Haha. But for real, some dogs are just clumsier, especially puppies. Yours will likely grow out of it eventually. For now though, it just makes her that much cuter :)

  3. Sometimes puppies are clutzes (and so are adult dogs), but this one may have a problem with her eyesight - has it been checked?

All puppies should go to a veterinary ophthalmologist when they are 6 weeks old to have their eyes checked - and Fenella should go see one now, too.

  4. it is absolutely normal

    puppies grow incredibly fast

and its almost impossible for them to keep up with their motor reflexes

so puppies are pretty clumsy until they get full grown and get

used to all the growing they do
