  1. Speak to a lawyer--he would have advice for you..

  2. Your best starting point is the stubs from the checks he was getting, if those are available.  If not - it sounds from your brief description like the royalties are based on drilling rights on some property.  If so, any such leases generally have to be registered with the state's Natural Resources department or equivalent.

  3. That is not the same kind of royalty in which this category is based on.  You need to be in the legal advice section.

  4. Royalty checks and royalty are not quite the same thing.  You'll have to contact the agency that's sending you the checks to see what your situation is regarding this issue.

  5. Who looked after the estate and dealt with the will? It should have been covered there. Failing that, you may be able to get information from your father-in-law's accountant.

There would have been income tax receipts from the company.

  6. It should be in the will. Check it. : )

  7. Check his will,  copy of bank statements (cashed checks) and/or if you have a copy of the check their should be some name/address on it and also get advise from an attorney.
