  1. Forget respect, find something the guy liked doing and have at it!!  Did he like fishing?  Take the kids out fishing then.  Bowling?  Yep, go out bowling.  Did he like going to the pub with the guys?  Then go to his favorite pub, get a drink, jump up on a table and toast his life!  He didnt sacrifice his life for you to sit around and cry!  With a shot of wiskey in hand "Heres to Uncle Bob, he died so we could have a drink without fearing the bad guys"  Drink the shot.

  2. May I recommend a HERO FLAG from www.theHEROFLAG.com

There is a memorial to sign in his honor, and a flag that will show his sacrifice will be remembered.

    Sincerely,

    Jeff

  3. Maybe setting up a foundation/scholarship fund for something that he was passionate about. You could always go with a memorial tattoo (if it is for your own personal memory). You could also donate a gift to a charity/foundation that he was passionate about in his name.

  4. Every year you could have a community picnic in his name with other families of officers.  This would bring officers, families and communities together.  You could have donations for a scholarship fund to help the families of fallen heroes.  You could have a car show or a bike ride to raise funds in his honor.  You can request a street or highway be named after him.  In any case I'm sure he would be touched by your thoughts and love.

  5. Donation in his name to a community center/ childrens center

ask the city for a park/ street or city property to be named in his honor

Establish a scholarship in his name for criminal justice students

Establish a 501c non profit foundation and fund raise these ideas. the fundraisers themselves are a memorial

  6. Try going to this link: http://www.nleomf.com/html/products/9100...

Have his name, Department, End of Watch and location on the wall put on a memorial bracelet.  To find where he is on the Memorial Wall you will have to search his name on the same site.  God bless!

  7. My condolences to you and your wife's family. I have served for around 10 years and lost friends and colleagues in a variety of ways. I would suggest that the family allow the police service to conduct a police funeral. If he had a particular area of interest in law enforcement maybe a fund towards something in that area would be appropriate. I have seen it requested previously that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to a particular fund (in this case the one you set up in his honor).

"They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the evening

    we will remember them

    Lest we forget"

  8. This is the best way that I could find to honor your fallen family member.

For the peace officer does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him.

So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well.

The peace officer is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for He will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose.

    According to Romans 13.1-5...

The Peace Officer's profession is ordained by God.

The Peace Officer is sent by God.

The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.

A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because it is honored by God.

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.

  9. how about a small photo and plaque at the station he worked at this will remind other the sacrifices that were made
