Our price range is $3000-$4000. I want a cruiser, she wants a sport bike. Neither one of us has ridden a motorcycle before.

I just want to get some suggestions.

  1. get a used bike look at the Suzuki SV650 it is a sport tourer and more forgiving for a beginner then a sport bike and you will not get bored in a couple months  if your planing on doing 2 up riding ,take the MSF course and always wear your safety gear

  2. find an avid motorcyclist in your area, odds are they will know where to find good cycles for you and your misses to learn on

and take a course on motorcycle safety riding they are worth it.

    good luck and open roads

  3. first of all, Take the MSF safety course, they supply the motorcycles and if you pass (You will) they normally over-ride you driving portion of the motorcycle Lic.

I also believe that any motorcycle can kill you (Ive ridden 30 years) but something with more power will tend to be less forgiving for a begginer. power by the way isnt just cc's, a 1700cc cruiser wont pop  a wheelie by accident and throw you off the bike at 60mph.

I would suggest a used cruiser 1200cc or less, light bike, but not less then 650 cc's as it wont fair well on parkways.

This will give you time to learn, really learn on a responsive but not overpowering or heavy bike. The links below is a list from an artical of suggested begginer bikes in all class/sizes. Enjoy!

  4. Please sign up for the MSF (safety) course, both of you.  Your tastes may seem conflicting, but you can find a sport-touring bike at most dealers.  For 3-4k, you are looking at a used bike, but they are out there.  Now, not a sport type, but a cruiser-tourer, look at Yamaha (Star) V-Star 1100 Silverado.  It isn't too awfully big, and you'll get the feel of it pretty quickly.

    Good luck, and happy riding!

  5. Take your MSF first then I suggest you look at Hyosung their bikes come in three styles naked , cruiser and sport bike. They are well made reliable machines this company use to make motors for Suzuki. And their GT250 will run right with a ninja and out corner it. It is worth look. Then you each could have the style you want but they would still match. They have the same offerings in a 650 also,.
