  1. We have had Kenmore for all of 50 years and we now have a new Kenmore with nothing but trouble with it and Sear will not do anything to cure the problem as of this date. Their brochure says "Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back"  but that hasn't happened in over two years of complaining nor does their one year guarantee correct the problem. It was a very obvious manufactured defect.

I now would highly recommend a GE for they have been one of the best for years. Also if Costco sells them I would recommend them for they enforce the warranty and also have their own  warranty, from our experience in the past at Costco

make a phone call to them and they will tell you to return it and give you your money back no questions asked.

  2. Whirpool is by far the best in quality and can be in different price ranges. They are the best. Hope this helps and also try consumer reports. Think about what you will be washing and what your need are. It will narrow your search. Try an energy efficent one and the ront loaders wring heavy comforters and down out very well. Takes less time to dry!

  3. Stay away from Sears & Kenmore!!!!  They are not the company they used to be.  EVERY major appliance in my home is a Kenmore and all except one have given me trouble.  All are less than 4 years old and were the high end versions.  Their customer service sucks.  If you must get Kenmore, please get the extended warranty!  Doors fell off, compressors broke, panel memory board went out, handles broke!!!  Check out consumer reports on Kenmore products.

  4. Whirlpool is very reliable, Sears Kenmore are reliable, Fisher & Paykel are very good but can be pricey. I would research several sites other than consumer reports, but they can have some reliable information.  I have a GE and I really like it.  do you want front loading or top loading.  Front loaders can cost more but use less water.  Sometimes the people at Home Depot, Sears,  and Lowes can give you pretty good info, as can some of the home or appliance centers.  When you hear one or two names being called reliable by several people, then you can pretty much guess that they are. then you need to look at capacity and features.

  5. Go to the library and look at Consumer Reports.

  6. Hi there,

A few things - we have a front load washer, and ever since we have used it, our towels have taken on a slightly musty smell, despite being washed with the correct detergent, borax powder, bleach, etc., and they always go straight into the dryer. Other white clothes of mine seem to come out with grey or blue splotches sometimes, too, which never happened with the upright washing machine.

Secondly - you might already know, but you don't really need to get the matching front load dryer. The real energy efficiency is in the washer, because it gets more of the water out of the clothes, so you only need to use the dryer less. Matching ones just look better, but aren't a necessity.

We got the H3 (I think) at Sears in Canada. It functions nicely, but the towel smell thing makes me wonder how clean the items are really getting.

  7. We bought one of the first Frigidaire front-load washers when they came out in 2001 and it is still going strong. Never had a service call on it yet. Uses much less water, gets clothes much drier before the dryer, and is very gentle on your clothes. I've actually had paper in pocket from work and it got washed, but did not tear to pieces. Seems like everyone offers front-load now so you have lots of choices.
