What are the top places to visit and things to see in Italian Lakes?

Since we only have one week, which area would you recommend and why?

  1. They really are both great places to visit. The lakes are more for scenery.  But places like the Isola Bella in Lake Maggiore have art and architecture also.

Tuscany has Florence --- a lot of famous art -- The David the Uffizzi, but the countryside is also very scenic. Also has other nice towns like Siena and Lucca.

The lakes aren't that far away you could spend a day or so there.

If you want to focus on one area, I would say Tuscany, especially if it's your first trip to Italy.

  2. Tuscany, here is good information about Tuscany:

  3. you should go to Portofino. It is really romantic and it's on the coast.

  4. I'd stay in tuscany if I were you. there are more attractions here. you could visit pisa and the leaning tower, florence, siena, lucca, san gimignano which is famous for its seven old towers, the hills near florence where chianti wine is produced. if you have enough time you can drive along the coast up to liguria and visit cinque terre, porto venere and portofino. they are small villages on the water, very beautiful places.

garda and como lakes are both fantastic but my favourite is the second one. anyway, one week is long enough to visit both. desenzano, limone, peschiera del garda are all famous places to see. I suggest you to rent a car and drive all along the lake, you can do that in one week.

    have fun here!

    bye bye

  5. You have a week, do both. you can spend 2 days in florence, a day in Pisa, and then take a train up to see the lakes. You have plenty of time. Buy a eurorail train pass and see the sights. it's easy to get around. good luck and buon viaggio

  6. Difficult choice, but I would choose the lakes. They are just breath-taking. Trust me. I am Italian and I have visited all of them. They are extremely romantic and the panorama is incredible. Then it depends on the season you choose. If you leave in the Spring or in the Summer the lakes are the choice.

    Have fun!!

  7. Tascany is much better. you can visit several cities and places. coz u have one week and can plan well, even florence it self u can spend whole week, but u can select two days there, one day  in Pisa,  siena, lucca and so many nice country side cities, great culture and wine. u can relax well

  8. Tuscany!

There is so much to do and see here.  I would recommend renting a villa or flat to have as your home base and then you can take day trips- Florence, Lucca, Cinque Terra, Pisa (though you definitely do not need a whole day there).

I am an American living in Tuscany now and could not be happier.  I actually live at a villa that rents out vacation flats.  You can see our website (still under construction!) at www.cenami.it  there is some area information there.

Let me know if you have any more specific questions about the area.

Good luck and enjoy your vacation!
