My wife had a house before we were married. The house is in her name. we had a leak and she filed an insurance claim but did not fix the problem. she changed insurance companies then filed again. I told and begged her not to do it. It will come out in our divorce. can i get into trouble? all this has been just lately.

  1. nope, not if you didnt sign anything you can say you didnt know anything about it until just now. turn her in to the insurance company they might give you a reward.

  2. Not sure how this will break down, but good luck dude. Insurances are a nightmare!

I can think of so many scenarios of how this might break down, that I have no way of advising you.

  3. You?  No.

Her? Insurance fraud.  And, believe me, when  it comes to prosecuting ins fraud, companies are out for blood.

  4. Mmmmm...Insurance fraud you say.....

  5. that sucks man. You probably can get into trouble for knowing about it...but if it was in her name only maybe you'll be able to get off.

  6. That's insurance fraud my friend.....yes, you can get in trouble for knowing about it and not reporting it.  Might fall under spousal privelage though.....my advice is let your lawyer know the deal and ask their legal advice.  As an agent, I would direct you to call your States Department of Insurance and report the fraud (you can do so without giving your info).  Good luck and definately talk to your lawyer.
