Or can she simply just take a few tests to get her teaching certificate?

  1. She needs to get a teaching degree. Depending upon where you live, and the requirements, there is a possibility of going into an After Degree program, which will shorten the length of years she has to go. However, that's usually only done if the first degree is done with a teachable major - but advertising obviously is not. My first degree was English, so I was able to do this.

  2. A lot of states have non-traditional licensure programs.  Ours is very good.  See the link to my answer to someone else about this topic.  It was kind of long & I don't want to re-type it.

  3. Well, she can't just take a test, although that will be part of the process.

Many states have alternative certification programs, however, one must have real life-experience in the field in order to qualify.  You didn't mention what field she is looking into, but that is a consideration as well.  Some fields, like Elementary Education or English & Social Studies, have an abundance of candidates and are not in high need.  Other fields, like Math, Science, Special Education, are in demand, so schools are much more willing to work with alternative certification candidates in order to fill those positions.

  4. more schooling....please...for the sake of my children....

  5. She can go to a book store and get a few CBEST books to study for that test, but she will still need to take the CSET and to do that, she can look into the local university for a credential program they may have.

  6. Having taken on graduate teacher trainees in the past, in my role as head of department, we could not have graduates in subjects that were not directly linked to the normal 11-16 curriculum.

I would imagine your wife would need to go back and do a cert ed and that would include teaching placements as she would need to do the educational theory and practise.
