My wife insists on leaving the oven door open after baking.She's always done this.In the winter, I say ok,but.

...in July when it's 100 and we don't have central air. Iwalk in and see she's left the door open."to cool the oven down faster."---Does this make sense to anyone. Doesn't the heat stay in the oven if the door's kept shut and not making the air in the house even hotter? She 's always fought me on this...luckily it's fine in winter...when you can see your breath in here.

Makes absolutely no sense,  the oven will cool down eventually whether it is open or closed.  In hot weather I say it is just spiteful to do anything that will add to another's discomfort.  Leaving the oven door closed will not damage anything.  If she wants it to cool faster, put a fan on.

Leaving it open will just allow the heat to quickly disperse through your house, which would be pretty unpleasant

If it's shut, the heat will still trickle out into your house, but a lot slower, which will be a whole lot more pleasant

tl;dr: There is absolutely no need to leave it open, it won't damage it or anything

I,ve always done that just out of habit. but what you could do is set up a fan in front of the oven to blow all the excess heat out the nearest window. That may solve some of the cranky fights.

I live in Texas.  I  avoid  baking in hot  months  but  when I do  I  have  a  osulating  fan  set  up.  I do not leave  oven door  open. After  some  thought I feel it  will just  stay inside and slowly cool.  Ovens  are  insulated,  a  fact  I learned  when mine  caught on fire in the  insulation from dripping  leaking  down from top. ,,Leaving door open  all way is  not only uncomfortable  but can cause  a  accident. I see no problem as you say in cooler  months,  cracking it open.
