  1. Hi there

This is really a question about how the mind remembers things and not really marital arts as such. Its a little like asking if you could remember everything you studied at university? Some of it would come back right away like the basic stuff but the larger forms would take a little practise to get back into the swing of. If you use it everyday the mind says keep it. If you don't it gets put on the back shelf for storage. You also remeber movements that are more natural  and effective.

If she isnt fit and active then flexibilty and her overall fitness will also play a part.

If she is a ninja make sure you watch what she puts in her cooking and sleep on your side of the bed! ;-)

    Best wishes

  2. If she doesn't practice it she will lose it. It's a life long venture.

  3. Yes and no.

She may remember some of the things she learned. It is kind of like riding a bike. On the other hand you know if you don't ride a bike for years and than get on one you can't expect to be riding in a bike race. Without constant practice you loose speed and certain muscles just don't hardly get used. Muscle memory begins to fade. Forms get sloppy.   It is a shame that she does not continue to train. I always feel bad when people stop training. You should encourage her to start training again even if it only 3 hours a week.  It could be something you could do together. I can't think of a better way to stay fit and in good shape.

  4. make her mad and find out

  5. Yes and no. Yes in that she may remember how to do it. And no that she will not have the same level of agility, responsivness, and flexibility.

  6. Maybe, Maybe not???

  7. If she is still strong, fit and flexible enough, she can whip it out at about 90%.  Which, is not bad for 2nd degree skills.  There may be some moves she'll have trouble with.

If she's trained under high stress with some adrenaline coming into play, her training can kick in to a degree when she's under adrenaline.

Does she still stretch and otherwise exercise?

  8. I wouldn't say all of it would come back to her, but if challenged she wouldn't have to think of a technique to do. It should come without her thinking. It would be a natural reflex like blinking. You don't think to blink it is a natural reflex.

Remembering every term or every kata might be difficult, but it would take long for that to be back in place.

  9. If you don't practice it will be hard to remember the forms but what you do remember are the basics and the principles of your martial art.

Once you learn the mechanics of fighting you might get rusty from not fighting but you never forget, they are ingrained in your subconscious.

The forms are not ingrained completely or at all in your sub conscious  because they are harder to reference and categorize than your fighting ability which are more relative than forms are to each other..

  10. martial arts is like riding a bike, once you know it its second nature, very unlikely she would forget, but she probably wouldent be AS good...not technique wise, but strength and speed wise from lack of training

    unless your a noob...

  11. I havent rode a bike in about 20 years  and i hopped on one and did wheelies bunny hops and moon walked the bike never forgot a thing so you tell me

and i weigh about 80 pounds more than i did

  12. No, you can't forget. Its like swinmming and riding a bike. You can't forget how to.

  13. HA!  what a bogus question ~ there's no way you have a wife!

  14. Maybe it's possible she may have forgotten a few techniques, but i doubt she'll have forgotten the entire art. If she picked it up again, most of it would come back.
