  1. Learn how to say "Sorry, I don't speak chinese" in chinese, and be sure to say it with a horrible accent so they know you're not a native speaker.

  2. Well I don't know where your wife is from but if she knows her native language she should speak that to them.  Does she understand what they are saying?  Just tell them you don't understand.

  3. Just nod your head while they are talking and when they finish say Tai Kwon Do or something like that, bow and walk away.

  4. You would think people from China know what thier own people look like, but here we have ignorance at its best.

I feel your pain. My fiance visited me in the USA some months ago and we went out to eat Chinese. The staff told me "bye bye" in English of course (I'm hispanic) and then spoke to my fiance in Chinese. He nodded politely is all. My fiance IS NOT Chinese - he's a native Japanese!!

If they continue to harass you go down there and tell them IN chinese that you are not of Chinese ancestry and neither is your wife. Possibly these people don't speak English and don't understand you. It's also possible that they think your wife is just being shy and they think they're helping her by recruiting her to a chinese community where she won't feel so "homesick." Set them straight immediately.

  5. Make it clear to Mr. & Mrs. Thick-in-the-head here that your wife is not Chinese and that she does not speak or understand the Chinese language.  Make this abundantly clear to them.

  6. Duibuqi, wo bu shuo Zhongwen.

(dwey boo chee, woh boo shwoh jong-wen)

    Sorry, I don't speak Chinese.
