  1. We have three dogs (one 100 lb. golden retriever and two German shepherds) and we live in a 1104 sq ft home.  While you may think that because we have a backyard it makes all the difference, that is certainly not true as our dogs typically are no less than 15 feet from us at any time.  For dogs it isn't about how much space they have, as they are pack animals and will typically stay with their people.  The most important aspect in deciding to get a dog is how much time you can spend exercising it.  If you neglect your dog and he gets worked up, you could live in a 2000 sq ft apartment and he will just have more areas to cause trouble.

It is all about teaching the dog the behaviors that are acceptable to you and your wife and making sure the dog gets PLENTY of exercise.  One of shepherds is a 15 month old puppy right now and we haven't had any issues with him chewing on things because we are very consistent in our training and have also made a point to crate train him should we need to leave for a period of time.

You may want to check out Cesar Milan's books, as they talk a lot about dog psychology.

  2. Tell her you agree, and that you want the dog too, tell her to get another job so you can buy a house, and have the dog.

  3. Tell your wife that If 915 sq ft apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms is good enough for two human beings, then it should be good enough for a "DOG". If she still disagrees, tell her to tell the dog to get a job so it could give you the money for a larger place that would be big enough for it to pee in.

  4. Get  French Bull Dog, they are very small.

  5. Apparently, you have never had a bulldog.

Bulldogs have an "odor" about them that other terrier-type dogs don't have.

People that cram big dogs into small spaces...obviously have a lower standard of clean than I do.  That's just nasty.
