I was an inpatient at a hospital awaiting surgery, and my wife came to visit me. They let her brake the rules and let her stay over night in bed with me in my room, and when she woke up, she felt really sick. They took her to the emergency room and started performing tests on her. Blood, urine, x-rays, catscans, ultra sound, The doctors admitted her against her wishes, they did not give her any kind of waiver to sign. After 5 days, they found that she had a cist on her overy that burst, and they sent her home and told her to go see her doctor. Now we have a $19,000 bill that just came from the hospital since she had no insurance. How can they force her to stay at the hospital and now send us a bill like this?

  1. Sounds like you need a lawyer.....good luck

  2. They can't, don't pay the bill. What are they going to do keep you prisoner in the hospital until you pay?

  3. So, there was an armed guard posted outside her room forcing her to stay, hmmmmm.  Obviously she didn't object to the medical help she received for 5 days; contact the hospital and make payment arrangements.

  4. All she had to do was walk out. They can't even force you to sign anything. The second a staffer touches you to keep you thendial 911 and the police will escort you out of the building.

As for the charges, they can be ignored but that will wreck your credit. Suggest you take them to court.

  5. She was able to leave at any time by signing herself out. She was not "forced" to do anything, she merely allowed it to happen.

  6. All she had to do was say no to tests or treatment or admission. At that point, she would have been asked to sign a form for leaving against medical advice. She submitted to treatment, therefore she incurred the expenses.
