Question:

My window screens let teeny bugs in. Do I have any options?

I stitch by hand in the evening while watching TV. I have my own special chair in my own special spot: right next to the sliding glass door leading out. I love sitting there. I enjoy especially when the weather is nice and I can open the glass door and leave the screen door in place. The fresh air and gently breezes are awesome.

I use a special lamp to brightly light up the area I am stitching on fabric, day or night. (It is much like a reading lamp.) The problem I have is when it gets dark at night. All types of bugs are fiercely attracted to the light. The teeniest of them (little gnats, I think they are) can fit between the threads of the screen. Then they fly in my face, and I hate bugs. Especially divebombing my eyes and nose and making me feel generally icky.

I cannot stitch without the light. I cannot switch the type of bulb or the light itself. Are there any other options? Is there some type of spray I could put on the screen that would repel the bugs? Help!

  1. don't open the door.

  2. I didn't know bugs could live to be teenies...

    How they grow these days...

  3. You could line one side of your screen with mosquito netting. If you wanted you could cover the whole window and just pin it on the four corners.

The holes are smaller than those in the screen. I don't know if you got mosquitoes too but it will keep them out also BONUS!!!

Edit: Ooops I forgot it was a screen door not a window. You can still use the mosquito netting, it will just be a canopy over that area.

  4. Light will attract bugs, especially at night time, you could get a Zapper installed outside on the patio , or some plants like a citronella that you keep close to the sliding door or a Citronella candle even.

  5. Spray the screen with  a bug repellant or Raid.
