  1. You have to go into bios at startup by continuously pressing the delete button and  change your cdrom to be first. Then it'll boot.

  2. scratched disk or bad copy.  is it pirated?

  3. you probably need drivers for your video card(that is if you've changed from a integrated one to a dedicated one)if so ad them to a flash drive unzipped before starting the install. also if you change your battery youve lost your bios settings.on the first screen when you hit the power button it will say something like press delete to boot to bios(thats how mine works)yours might be f1 or f9 youll have to read it to know.also if your trying to set up a duel booting os,you know with vista and xp then you cant install xp if you already have vista installed but you can install xp then vista.if your trying to erase vista to install xp you'll have to format the hard drive before it will let you install xp.you can do that a few ways use a Linux live cd and boot from the disc(its an os that runs from a disc you can download all kinds of them for free i like ubuntu live cd.or you can boot to dos and use command prompts or you can put the hard drive in another working pc and format it from my computer.

  4. I believe you still have Vista installed and you need a FULL version of XP to install not an upgrade or cut down version

What it is, is the MBR Master Boot Record it has the Info in it for Vista and as XP was B4 vista it will not recognize it

You could try " Hirens Boot CD " download burn and boot from it

It has a lot of programs listed in different sections one is for replacing MBR read what it says and change MBR it should do the job

Also if you load XP you will have to find M/board drivers etc

  5. If its a laptop then u need to install drivers separately for it ..

Do you have a linux partition on your system ?

then most of the times this will be causing problems

  6. Wipe the disk off with a soft cloth and try it again, sometimes fingerprints will cause this.
