My wireless card doesnt work anymore on my laptop

I had windows xp and my laptop has 2 slots. before the wireless card use to work only on the top slot but now it doesnt work on either. i installed Vortex Windows Vista. when it worked the light was bright and you could see it but when its not working you need to llok closly too see the light and its very light. the internet connections dont come up like the routers that are near me i cant even have a option to see it. but the wireless card is recognised.

the wireless card is compatable with this windows so what shall i do.

is there anything i can do

  1. You need to go to the website of the card manufacturer and download a Vista driver.


  2. Maybe you need to update something? XP and Vista are pretty different

Vortex Windows Vista?  You mean it's not real Windows Vista?  There's one problem.  If you're running a program that makes XP look like Vista, you still need to use Windows XP drivers because internally, it IS STILL XP!!!  If you want to use Vista drivers, you need to buy REAL, GENUINE WINDOWS VISTA.

  4. This does sound like either an driver or hardware problem.

    check that they card has the vista compatible drivers Rather than the XP drivers installed

    also check that the power connections are OK on the PCMCIA slot by plugging in another PCMCIA card and seeing if it works OK

    finally try another wireless CARD finally if all else fails reinstall Windows XP without the Vortex Hack as it sounds like this is the cause of the problem.
