My wireless connection is working fine but I can not connect to the internet with my laptop?

I have recently updated my anti-virus (AVG Free) and I cannot connect anymore to the internet. My flatmate can connect fine to the Internet with his laptop so it is an issue with my laptop

I get a warling message that says that my anti-virus is out of date but I can not update it because I can not access the internet to do it. Is it because of this that I can not connect anymore? What can I do? I have tried to desinstall it and reinstall it but still the same warking message when I switch on my laptop.

thanks

  1. Well, AVG message can just be closed. I have never seen AVG cause a network to disconnect. The issues are separate issues. (One you can't connect thus two AVG can't update!)

To fix the connection, we need a little more information. Check the wireless settings (should show in the lower right corner of the toolbar - If not go to control panel, network connections.)

See what the STATUS of the Connection shows! Are you actually transmitting can you view networks using the "view available networks" link?  Start with the connection.

Once that is resolved - you can then update AVG.

On laptops there is usually a switch that can also cause the issue. I accidentally turned mine OFF - took me two days to find the thing!  Be sure wireless is turned ON!

    Let us know.

(PS since you just updated to AVG - just be sure you aren't trying to run TWO AV's - that's not a good thing to do!)
