my laptop is to old to have a wirless internet card built in but my family has a highspeed l.a.n. connection that runs off a linksis router. it works just fine until i unplug the cable and try to connect w/ my linksis wirless card. (wireless-g notebook adapter). and everyone else in my family connects no problem.

first i get a balloon that says limited or no connectivity then through some tinkering i can usually get it to aquiring network adress, but on the rare occasions i get it to say connected i open internet explorer and get a website cannot open screen. it says it has to do w/ my firewall and its httip and ftps settings or something, i have tried checking the boxes on these firewall settings and completely dissabling the firewall, nothing works, please help

  1. Buy a USB wifi adapter that is about 40-50 dollars it looks just like a flash drive. Here's a link. Otherwise i suggest a new laptop.

  2. Three potential causes:

    1. Wireless is unreliable or you are nearly out of range

Solution: Move closer to the wireless router

    2. Your wireless adapter could be faulty

Solution: Try a friends wireless card (if possible)

    3. Your computer may have some manual (IP) addressing information

Solution: Get an IT technician to remove the settings or remove your wireless hardware in "Device Manager" and instal it again.

  3. YOu do't have to buy a new comp....

Just get a new card, but if the one you have is internal than is mostlikely not working or you have to clrear the old Ip address

just go to your command pront and type..

    ipconfig /release

    and than type

    ipconfig /renew

try to connect if it doesn't work go get the usb that bthe first answer recommended.
