Im currently using a speedtouch 585 modem/router (provided by tiscali)

and a netgear wirelss G USB adapter.

I only get a low signal from my bedroom, but it runs fine. But when i stop using the connection (e.g, a page is loaded) it will disconnect from my router, then reconnect again.

Ive tried a few things but still cant fix this, anyone got any ideas?

  1. you are probably at the limit of your modem/routers range or possibly your have a neighbouring network interfering. Try a different channel on your router and ensure that the option to connect to non preferred networks is unchecked in the netgear settings Ensure you are using the latest drivers for the netgear and upgrade the firmware in your tiscali if thats an option. If your router has detacheable aerial you could try a high gain aerial.

An alternative is to use powerline adapters - these use mains wiring instead of a long ethernet cable. You plug a powerline adapter into one of the ethernet ports on the router and into a local mains socket and another adapter into your computer ethernet port and a nearby mains socket

Speeds are better than wifi and signals can be encrypted so your neighbour cannot hack in if they have powerline adapters.

  2. try direct connection to see if its the wi-fi problem fault.

  3. Low signal is not really realiable, plug the usb wireless LAN adapter into the 2.0 usb port not 1.1

  4. are you using zone alarm ?

  5. reinstall hte drivers / software for it or go closer to the router. if you cant get the Belkin N1 from here or ebay:
