  1. There are a number of reasons your router doesn't work anymore. Although, your questions is too vague to give a specific answer, you can check the following items.

    1) Many times the router just needs a quick reset. Look on the back of the router for a small reset button. Press the button for 5 seconds, and then wait about 2 minutes. Try and reconnect after that.

    2) Other times, the problem exists between your router and your modem. Here is a small list of things to try:

Click "Start", then select run, then in the box type "cmd".

This will open a dos window (a large black window). In this window, type "ipconfig" and press enter. You should get a printout similar to this:

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

            Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : router

            IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.102

            Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

            Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

The important entry is the IP address, and the default gateway. Try and ping the gateway with the following command (substituting the x.x.x.x with the numbers that appeared in the gateway field above):

    "ping x.x.x.x"

If you get 4 reply lines that look like this:

"Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64", then you have a connection to the router at least. If you don't get this, then you're not even connected to the router.

If you still cannot connect, then paste the results from each of those commands above in here, and perhaps we can offer more assistance.

  2. unplug it from the wall (power) and do the same for you modem wait 20 secs and plug it back in... sometimes you have to reboot it just like your computer...

    reboot your computer aswell...

  3. Are you sure it's the router?

A couple of days ago, MS sent out a bunch of security fixes. One of the fixes killed Zone Alarm. If you have ZA on your machine, turn it off and see if you get your connection back.

If you do, go to Zone Labs and download the latest version to fix the problem
