Question:

My wireless internet stopped working!

I turned on my computer to find that my wireless was picking up the network that I always connect to, but now it says 'Local Only'. This goes for both my laptop and my desktop, and the internet light on my modem remains off. The Power, Ethernet, and DSL lights are all on. Can I get some assistance?

  1. Shut down all your computers.

    Unplug your modem and router.

Plug the modem back in. Make sure if there is an "Internet" button that it hasn't been switched off.

    Plug the router back in.

    Boot up the computers.

I'll bet this solves the problem.

  2. Without being able to troubleshoot your situation, I'd say do a full reset.  Shut everything down, unplug the connection to the DSL modem, both power and phone.  Wait a few minutes.  Plug the phone lines back into the modem, and then the power.  Next, reconnect the modem to the computer and reboot.  You should also unplug the wireless router to reset it.  If you don't have access, it may be a network issue, in which there's not much you can do other than call and complain to your provider.

  3. Mine does that, i unplug the tower for about 10 sec. plug back in. It starts to work. maybe it will work for you, i hope so.  GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

  4. As far as the HP Assistant...it's wrong often on my computer.  Rebooting fixes it temporarialy.  If you can "see" networks exist then it's obviously turned on - just forget about the HP assistant.

Unplug your router (and modem) for 10 seconds to reboot them.  Then reboot your computer(s).  This usually fixes it.

Otherwise all I can suggest is calling your ISP.  Since lights on your modem are doing strange things, I'd suspect it's something between you and your ISP like a damaged line or poor signal...which you have to call the ISP about anyway...

  5. unplug your router and leave it off for a few seconds, also turn off your wireless adapter on your laptop. start them both back up and you should be good to go

  6. Unplug your modem from the power for 30 seconds and then plug it back in again, if this fails contact your internet service provider for troubleshooting

    Hope This Helps
