  1. If your work history is poor, you will need to emphasize your abilities, special skills, and educational background rather than your work history.  By emphasizing your abilities and showing genuine enthusiasm for the position applied for and the company, and a willingness to learn, this can often make up for a poor work history.  Many prospective employers are more interested in what you can, and will, do for them than what you have done in the past.

    When writing a resume, you should probably use the "functional resume" format rather than the chronological format.  The functional resume format puts your career objective, abilities, special skills, and education first, and lists your work history last.

  2. See the job application process as sales:

    - Sell your skills

    -Sell your personality: everyone overlooks this - but your fit is more important for a company then your skills

    - Sell your drive: show that you're committed and keen - show that you like doing this a hobby as well and they'll realize how keen you are.

    - Sell your flexibitly: goes hand in hand with drive - you're better then the 'old dogs' because you're willing to learn

    - Sell you confidence: experience isn't everything. I outclass a lot of people who have more experience because of my drive (see above).

    It also depends what type of job your going for.

    Back when I was employed I went for a job in SEO. To show off my skills,  I wouldn't send employers a resume. Instead, I SEOed my name and asked them to Google it :) They were then taken to a page with my resume. They still call me asking to employ me, one year after the interview.

  3. A worker has to start out from somewhere.

    You haven't had a great work experience; so please focus on the future:

    * work ethics

    * attitude towards job assignment

    * being courteous & willing to learn

    * taking night classes to prove that you are willing to be better

    etc.

    then after 2 years, you have great experience which most employers would ask for.

    (do not lie about the past; rather, focus on the present and the future)
