I just started working at food lion on my own two weeks ago as a cashier. this is my first job. well on one of my training days me and this girl was on the same cash register and my boss says there was 20 dollars missing from there. last friday i worked, they said there was another 20 dollars missing from my register and i was the only one working on it that day so i though well maybe i accidently gave somebody too much money. so my boss puts me on this strict regulation thing for 4 weeks which means i'm not suppose to lose more than 10 dollars. on my second day of my "probation" i lost 9.55 and i'm really upset cuz i know i didn't steal any money but im sure they're thinking i am. i don't steal money period. i'm worried they're going to fire me. this is my first job and i'm s******g it up. i want to talk to my boss but i don't know wat i'm going to say. please help! I'm not a theft and this is really upsetting me!

  1. That's gotta be rough! I think you may be giving too much change but if not, then i think you need to count the money in the register before you start!!!!!

    Good Luck!!!!!!

  2. The only thing I can think of is count the money in your drawer to make sure the amount you are supposed to start the shift with is what it is supposed to be.

  3. I agree with quack quack count the drawer before you start if they wont let you then get another job.

  4. it doesn't necessarily mean you're stealing.  It can also mean you're incompetent at your job.  Either way it's the same result.  they can't afford to lose money because of a careless employee or one who doesn't know how to do their job properly any more than they can afford to lose the money to a theif.

Count the till before you start.  Slow down.  Count back the change carefully.  Pay attention to where you place the bills in your register.  Call for someone to make a deposit if you till is too full.  Make sure you are having over rings properly voided out.  And if you lose this job, it's a learning experience.  you go out and get another one and do better.

  5. I have the same problem!  Except it's just me and the owner on the register.  I'm the only one who does shift changes... sometimes it comes up over and other times short, so I don't know what's going on.  I think you should talk to your boss about it, but when I talked to my boss he just says "just be careful and really pay attention."  Idk...
