  1. sadly, there is no way to prevent the heat but the thing you can do is HELP ventilate it.... umm nikko sells a very good external inter-cooler that you attach to the back.... i way i have it  is , LAYING down with one fan dedicated towards the 360 aimed at the back in a open space... based on your description you have done everything you can do ... god speed.

  2. my xbox gets really hot to but not that hot but what i did was get small deask fan and put it right behind the xbox 360 and have half blowing in into the xbox and the other half curculate the hot air out but i dont think that will help if its steaming....i think you cooling fan has broken and isnt getting the hot air out....take it to like a place where they can fix it....and dont get one of dem niko in intercooling fans they are horrible they get there power from your power brick and the power brick plugs into the intercooler and it uses so much anergy it might under power your xbox 360

  3. if its blowing steam out theres definetly a problem, call xbox.

  4. Is it overheating or just hot? It does get pretty hot during regular operation. If its overheating try putting a damp (not WET!!!) towel or an  icepack (wrapped in a dry towel) on top or near the box. A fan also helps but not as well.

  5. well if it is the first gen 360, like the kind that is prone to the red ring of death, then it's no wonder it's heating up! if this is possible, you could ship it in to microsoft or take it to a shop or something, or maybe even do it yourself. you might be able to switch the cooling fans inside, or add better ones. avoid the intercoolers though. they melt to your console and actually contribute to the heat problem. but yeah, try and see if you can switch out your fans in the console

  6. CALL MICROSOFT CUSTOMER SUPPORT IMMEDIATELY!

Mine did get very hot at certain points but it shouldn't be steaming!
