My xbox cant read any of my games and theres nothing wrong with the discs

okay im not quite sure whats wrong with my xbox so make sure you read one morning i turned on my xbox and tried to play a few games but it wouldnt play any of them and it brings up this white screen saying "please put this disc into an xbox 360 console to play"it was working perfectly the day before i look on the website to see if i could find out what was wrong and it says the accesories (however you spell it) could be the problem so i unplugged my hardrive and it works perfectly without it so i bought a new hardrive as i thought the hardrive was the thing that was borken not the xbox but it still brings up the screen saying what it said before can someone please tell me what i need to do and what the problem with my xbox is

i think the laser lens are dirty get a dvd cleaner and it should work are they scratched?and open then close the xbox thats what i do then i turn it on and off try it over and over eventually works
