My young watermelon plant produces a fruit that gets about golf ball size then splits open. Whats wrong?

The fruit gets a little larger that a golf ball then they split wide open. What could I be doing wrong? This is my first try a watermelon & really have no idea what I am doing :-) Help

It sounds to me like your over watering the watermelon plant. Lay off the water and try a little bit of fertilizer. Best of luck with your watermelon!
