Myck Kabongo commits to Texas Longhorns
Point guard Myck Kabongo re-committed to the Texas Longhorns only five days after the youngster said that he needed more time to look into other programs around the country.
Kabongo had already committed to Texas when he decided he need more time to look into other programs. Kabongo targeted the Duke Blue Devils, Kentucky Wildcats, North Carolina Tar Heels and the Syracuse Orange. However, after talking with various representatives
from the other schools he realized he was happy with Texas.
“I took a quick step and I evaluated everything and quickly realized that Texas is best for me,” the youngster told ESPN.com in a text message. “For all the reasons I’ve stated before in the past, there’s no way I can build a relationship with [another]
coach in a year like I have with coach [Rick] Barnes and the staff at Texas and I don’t want to waste the other coaches or individuals associated with the schools time knowing this.”
Kabongo was ranked as the number nine prospect in the country and the number two point guard. The final commitment from Kabongo has bumped the Texas recruiting class for 2011 to sixth in the country.
Kabongo was apologetic to Texas fans and reiterated his desire to join the Longhorns program.
“As for Texas fans, I’m sorry and I will continue working hard to make the impact they expect me to make come next fall,” said the guard in his text. “I bleed burnt orange and I’m working hard to bring Austin fans excitement.”
The Longhorns, who are considered to be contenders in the Big 12 this season, are relying on a strong freshman class, which features two players from Canada. Guard Cory Joseph of Toronto and forward Tristan Thompson of Brampton are expected to make a major
impact in 2010-11. Kabongo will then join his Canadian counterparts for the start of the 2011-12 season.
Kabongo is a 6’2” 170-pound point guard from Toronto.
