  1. Apply for your visa before you come as it will be easier if you haven't already got a job lined up and discussed sponsorship with your employer.

Best suburb with an 1hr commute by train is from a city called Geelong. Has the best AFL team and house prices are a lot cheaper than Melbourne

  2. DON'T GO TO BROADMEADOWS OR CARAIGIEBURN!!!!!!!!

  3. I lived in the Dandenongs for a while, Hampton South and now in Mount Eliza.

The Dandenongs are beautiful cause of the nature, but too far away from the city. In Hampton South I missed the typical Australian bird life and I thought it was too crowded.

Mount Eliza is far away from the city too. One hour drive(but I do not mind to drive to work to the city) still wow, it is just beautiful here. The houses are pretty expensive, but even some areas of Frankston or towards Seaford is still nice and you get decent houses and it is a nice place to live. It is near the beach, with good schools, good shopping and the door to the Mornington Peninsula with its beautiful places.

  4. New Estate being developed, 60% young families.

We are a property developer....and have targeted the Western corridor as an investment potential, its growing fast.

The government is spending Billions of dollars on schools/roads/ train stations/ shopping centres. A new mariner is being developed nearby, cost estimate for this project 1.5Billion

Currently a brand new 4-5 bedroom home in this area is less than 350K, corresponding home in other similar area / within same distance of CBD would be $600-750k.

Some of these properties have been purchased by investors whom lease them with reputable real estate agency like LJ Hooker and Ray White. These properties are currently being rented out at around $320-355. The location is less then 25minutes from Metro CBD, from Point Cook and out towards Geelong.

I would say to any and all that have cash or funds available. to get in now, as these prices are going up fast, we are expecting this area to double within the next five years..... not as the historical reports suggest 7-10years.

If you are interested in more, send me an email

If you have a vision, then this area is a little gold mine, give it 3-5 years, and it will be cleaned up and a real trendy location,

so remember Brimbank and Hobson Bay

    cheers

  5. The suburbs of Carlton, Carlton North, Parkville and Princes Hill are all lovely, probably some of the nicest suburbs in Melbourne in my opinion, although real estate can be expensive. There are some parks and schools, and also plenty of shopping facilities. It's a nice, friendly, leafy area. About 15 minutes into the CBD on a tram.

  6. Australia has been famous for the adventurous tour it offers to his visitors. So, I would recommend you for not forgetting to try some adventurous activities like abseiling, rock climbing, horse riding, rafting etc. in High countries of Australia.

You can get such tours @ http://www.adventurevictoria.com.au/

  7. Get to Carlton and meet up with the Carlton Crew (mafia)

  8. theres a place called northcut, it's a good place my aunt lives there

  9. St Kilda is a great suburb.  7 min drive from CBD.

And while your there, go see an AFL Match.  Collingwood is the BEST team.

  10. I recommend to wait for your sponsorship from your employer.

As already mentioned by Tiger St Kilda isn't the place for a young family. And Carlton? Well, during the day it's quite alright but during evenings and nights it might be noisy around Lygon St as there are lots of restaurants and such.

But I know a friend living there and he's happy to be there.

Try to find a living space near your employer though (you didn't tell us where this will be).

Anyway, good luck in Australia and Melbourne is the place to be (as the licence plates are telling you ;))

I love to be in Melbourne and I'm always going there when visiting Australia.

  11. I’m actually not from Melbourne, though I am an Australian that has visited Melbourne many a time. Possibly a better place for you to get advice is from a credible forum where you can ask questions from people that have moved to Melbourne and are now living there (I have added some links below). As you can see by the answers given already in Yahoo Answers, it seems to attract all sorts of answers from all sorts of people, some very far from the mark, and if you are living outside of Australia you may have little idea about the integrity / accuracy of such answers. Of course you don’t want you and your family moving to mafia ridden arrears of Melbourne, and as for St Kilda if you think raising a young family where both women and young men prostitute themselves on the street, think again (St Kilda is one of Melbourne’s notorious areas for prostitution!) I personally would not chooses to live in Melbourne, though a lot of people do and seem to enjoy living there. All the best with your questions and your move to Australia.

  12. melbournes no good, move to sydney =)
