Question:

Mysterious Ocean Ailment?

When I was at the ocean recently after swimming for the whole day (attempting to body surf, thus rolling around in the sand alot) I devoloped sore spots and really sensitive skin on my s*****m where it meets the thigh. These spots hurt really bad when they came in contact with saltwater and after 3 more days of swimming I could barley walk. I also (down the front of my leg) devoloped red mosquito like bites, that also hurt in the water. What are these things caused by? Is my swimsuit (shorts style), the sand, or some organism?

  1. I don't think you use a board to body surf, do you?  LOL

You got sand in your suit and it irritated the skin.  It's also possible that you got sand fleas and that's where the bites came from.  Shower off and change clothes right after you leave the beach.  You can put some Hydrocortizone cream on the bites.  It'll help them heal and help stop the itching.

  2. It has happened to me that the sand gets into the crease of your thigh and rubs together to create a VERY frustrating sore.

It's just the sand rubbing with your swimsuit into the crease, which at first is not noticed, until some flesh is torn and the salt water comes into contact, creating that strong stinging sensation.

    :)

  3. it's from the skin pulling as you are getting off and on the board. i get all the time when i am kneeboarding.
