One theory is that a great beam of "high velocity soft electrons" exits the earth through a vortex. Another is that a giant underground device produces the weird effects.

I think it was built, & then set on a slope at an angle, instead of on flat ground, such that the walls & the interior of the building itself would appear vertical or "normal" from the inside. Events inside the house (the running water, the standing broom, etc) are actually following the usual laws of physics, but the observer perceives things differently, b/c it's actually the observer that is "off", instead of being verticle to the earth's gravitational pull. You get disoriented & lose your balance, b/c your eyes are giving your body a different message than your inner ear is (which is telling you that "up" is not what your eyes are perceiving).
