I've read a lot of books, and have grown tired of blood and gore. Dean Koontz is too weird for me, and Mary Higgins Clark is too predictable. I've read all of Brown, Cornwell, Patterson, Silva, Wilbur Smith, Cook and probably others. So I need a "not so known" author. Thanks.

  1. Nora Roberts is best known for romance. But she has moved into mystery suspense and writes it very well.

  2. Dean Koontz

    Nora Roberts

    Victoria Holt/Hibbert

  3. Michael Connelly

  4. I love Scandinavian police procedurals, and I can wholeheartedly recommend Karin Fossum's (Norway) Inspector Sejer series and the novels of Arnaldur Indridasson (Iceland). Ruth Rendell is a fascinating psychological mystery writer from Britain, and Tom Rob Smith's recent 'Child 44' (set in Stalinist Russia) is fascinating.

  5. I recommend Robert Parker who writes 'Spenser for Hire'. Even though there is violence, it's not gory or that bloody. I also highly recommend Janet Evanovich who has a lot of humor in her stories in the misadventures of Stephanie Plum, whose a bounty hunter. When she and her sometime partner Lula go out on a run, it's like Lucy & Ethel. I also suggest Sue Grafton, she has a fair amount of violence which is necessary for all of them, but I never came across anything to gory.

  6. I like Tami Hoag....
