Mystery of the magic ball-point pen: is anyone aware of this technology?

4 years back I purchased this pen from an Indian peddler. He had said it's a "magic" pen and its refill will last "forever". Of course, I laughed. But, to my surprise, it has indeed came true so far.

In all these years, I've often used this pen for signature, scribbling notes, courier delivery, h**l, any normal ball-point refill would just dryup in such a long period of time. I often scribble with the pen on a rough surface and try to "exhaust" the ink. Doesn't work. Once I even tried to break the roller, but it was too hard.

I can't think of an analogy to describe this weird mystery! Does anyone know what material or technology such pens are made of, if it's not spooky? Yeah sometimes I think the pen is haunted.

Does it write upside down as well?

If so,it may be a Fisher space pen.

I had one for years. It will eventually run out. But you can get re-fills. First pen able to write in zero gravity.

It sounds like one of those "inkless" pens that use a metal alloy tip that can mark most papers. They're certainly not super high-tech space-ace inventions - similar metal styluses date back to the middle ages, and Leonardo da Vinci was known to have used one. The earlier ones were made of silver and needed specially prepared paper to write on, but modern alloys can be used to mark a wide variety of papers. What actually happens is a very thin layer of the metal alloy gets laid down on the page, so it's really more like a very hard pencil than a pen. As a result the tip does gradually wear down over time, but you would have to be using it for a long time to notice - most of the ones I've seen on sale claim to last for 25 years!

No. Maybe it got stuck in your mind and you use it rarely.With email,computers, etc ball pens are used sparingly for manual signatures or minor scribling.No plausable reason.
