Question:

Mythbusters moon hoax special?

Can someone specify or link to a site on how the mythbusters called ALL the myths in this latest episode and a bit of a description? I saw a part of it, and were the mythbusters also firing lasers towards the real moon?

Any useful information will be useful, and someone may get bonus marks!

  1. I agree with the other comments but I think myth busters did a very thorough job. I'm sure they will rerun it again. Look up their website !!!

They also said they did other proofs that they didn't have time in one show to include but you can see them online at their site.

  2. Pretty much they busted every last one of them, here's a site with a good summary:  http://mythbustersresults.com/episode-10...

Yes they were firing a laser at the moon, one of the missions placed a reflector on it so we could use a powerful laser to accurately determine the distance from here to there and to see if it was getting closer or further away

  3. all of the hoax were busted. it was a footprint, flag moving, moving on moon, shadows while taking a picture. it might be on youtube so go check that out. nasa really went to the moon. and yes they were firing a laser at the real moon.

i just found it on youtube....  http://www.youtube.com/results?search_qu...

  4. Those guys on Myth Busters are great, but I did nor require their savvy to know that the moon landing was authentic.

  5. shadows going different directions(claimed to be the product of multiple lights lighting the stage): busted, a similar effect can be observed using hilly terrain with just a single light source, tested with models in darkroom

astronaut visible even though being in the lander's shadow, pointing to multiple light sources; busted, astronaut is visible because of the light reflecting off of the lunar surface, tested with models in a dark room with dust similar to that of lunar surface.

moon walk video was just slow motion: busted, even making the effort to move in similar ways to the videos the slow motion looked a noticeably different from actual low gravity(demonstrated using a cargo plane, "vomit comet")

Foot print on moon impossibly detailed; busted, the reason why foot prints end up so deformed on earth is due to atmosphere, tested foot print detail using a vacuum chamber

Flag Waving shows presence of wind; busted, waving was resualt of the flag being moved into place, and the flags movements exist for longer due to lack of wind resistance, tested in vacuum chamber.

  6. The episode was gerat - finally a show that doesn't "make no statement in particular, but leaves the viewer to draw their own conclusions" about that ghastly topic.

They busted the classic arguements that the landings were faked: lit astronauts in shadows, and non-parallel shadows were both used as arguements that there were multiple light sources. The mythbusters reproduced both effects using a single light source, proving that these images don't reveal additional light sources.

Arguement: footprints too sharp. They busted this one by using reproduction lunar soil (regolith) and stamping a footprint in this soil with an actual lunar boot in an actual vacuum. (The vacuum means that there could be no water in the soil to help it hold the shape of the print)

Arguement: The lunar gravity seen in the videos was simulated by either slowing down the video or by using wires. They then proceeded to use both techniques to simulate lunar gravity, and showed their reproduction footage side by side with the original moon footage. The difference was obvious. They then used a ride on the vomit comit to create actual 1/6th gravity and walked along again, the motion matching the moon footage astonishingly well.

My one complaint with this set of experiments was that they didn't lay a bed of dust in the hangar to show that not only was gravity 1/6 that of Earth's, but the astronauts were in a real vacuum. (The reproduction footage in the hangar would have kicked up dust and it would have hung around in the air, while in the Moon footage, it just falls right back down.)

Arguement: (this is the one I see the MOST on here) The flag waved in the moon footage, therefore there was air, so it was fake.

The mythbusters used a vacuum chamber and built a replica lunar flag assembly from the actual blueprints. They then twisted the flag in air and in vacuum. In air, it actually moves LESS than in vacuum, and quickly comes to rest in air, while it waves longer in vacuum.

They could have even pointed out that Lunar gravity would keep it waving even longer.

All in all, a great show to have finally aired, but I hold no illusions that it will convince any of the true hoax believers. It is best suited to prove the Hoax theory BUSTED for those who might be duped by misleading documentaries that give you your own conclusion to come to on your own all by yourself <nudge nudge>.

Now all they need to do is tackle the myth that old astronauts can punch Bart Seibrel in the face. Bring in Bart, and get Buzz to punch him. Myth comfirmed! :D (I know it already happened, but dangit, I want it to happen again!)

  7. It is sad that Mythbusters (great show, by the way) ever had to prove something that never had to be proved.

The only sadder thing is all the very sad people who are so ignorant as to believe all this conspiracy nonsense.
