Why do you think the leadership spreads rumors about nonpayment of the SGLI? I already have a good idea about the reasons but I want to know your opinions.

  1. Which leadership? Apparently somebody must be doing it but... 25 years in the USAF and I never heard any of those until I looked at that website.

  2. The answer and question has nothing to do with how many Tours you had

    in Iraq ...Duh..

The Fact of the matter is...

You had better check your Insurance Policy...as a lot of Insurance

companies have written things like that into them...

Fact..That "Out Side the authorized travel limits is TRUE" !!!!

They are talking about Military Insurance...

They are using every excuse Not To Pay...

Gee I was only a Sgt...

with Two Combat tours with the Marines in Vietnam..

As a SSgt in the Military suggest you stop your petty *** complaining

and start taking better care of your Troops...

  3. You didn't say if you are or were on active duty so I'm assuming that you were neither and know nothing about the subject. How is it that you know what goes on in "most safety briefings in the Army". If you want to help the military men and women and their families, don't go spreading false statements around the internet and possibly upsetting a young mother to be whose husband she wasn't seen or talked to in months. Instead of coming into this forum and asking stupid questions that, if you would read the page that you got your information from, is dispelling myths and rumors of about  SGLI/VGLI payment. It's people like you who read the first three sentences of an article and immediately start running around, not knowing horse carts from apple sauce and upsetting innocent people.

  4. Its not that they spread myths, its that somewhere sometime ago a 1SG stated something like "if you are outside the mileage radius without a pass and something happens you will be denied all benefits" and the commanders believed it and all of a sudden its a verbal policy. The people that are saying this c**p ACTUALLY BELIVE themselves. Fact of the matter is commanders like to have those little gaggle formations where they like to talk, but never actually verified anything that they are putting out of their mouth to be true. Fact is nothing stops payment of your SGLI except desertion and treason.

My favorite rumor, is when I am a national guardsman on title 32 orders attached to an active duty unit and the commanders threaten UCMJ action. I just laugh. National Guard is not covered under the UCMJ unless we are dederalized.

  5. This is very interesting to me because until I saw your question and then checked the SGLI website I thought that what you said was true, no pay out if they're not wearing a seat belt or helmet.  I'm guessing it's the scare 'em straight tactic.
