History channel has a new show on Ancient Monster Hunters. A very interesting hypothesis that ldragons and other mythological creatures and gods were actually the result of fossil remains and an interpetation based on the the culture of the time. So egyptians and greeks saw dinosaur bones and came up with centaurs and gryphons. very compleling show, and my be of some intrest to cyptozoologists in the forum. What do you think?

  1. Cryptological stuff is so interesting because they find hard evidence.  Most is considered "Paranormal" until they come up with the real animal.  Just recently they have come up with what may have solved 2 "cryptos".  The so called Dartmoor Beast may now explain the monster story of a large cat eating livestock, and it may also be a descendant of the European lion.  The European lion was hunted to extinction over 1000 years ago. One of the ideas floating around now is that the big black cats seen before may be females and that the new photos are of a male lion with a hairy mane. I hold off my judgment just knowing that some day they will find most "cryptos"  will have some base in reality.

Check out these "crypto" cat pages.

  2. It's hard to say...there are a lot of things that could be a result of interpretation rather than being based upon fact.

  3. I think it's a good premise for a show.If we assume these creatures never existed.(a surprising number of folks believe they did).It would be interesting to find the Myths origins. The Dinosaur bones would have startled the ancients.

  4. I havent seen the show, but I think the theory severly underestimates human imagination to create such creatures. Sure, it could be possible, but I don't buy it. There are too many other things that create monsters.

Sleep paralysis has given rise to a whole culture of alien abductees for example. This human phenomena used to be known as incubus and succubus demons in much of europe, and the old hag in scandanavia.
