I am currently in the process of upgrading my computer and I am confused on which video card to get. I have done a little bit of research and people keep saying to buy the 8800gt but why? Isn't the 9600gt supposed to be a better more powerful video card?

  1. I will tell you exactly why. Nvidia got sloppy with their products, which came in the form of the 9 x series. the 9600 gt for example, has lower speeds than the 8800 gt, not to mention on benchmark tests, the 8800 gt outperforms the 9600 gt. Doesnt work that way in the gaming world, where you expect a newer product is going to succeed 100 percent from the older versions. I suppose you are a curious one like me, so its good asking questions like this, so go for the 8800 gt, which has been proven to give you more bang for your bucks. Not everything which has been released lately is better than the old counterparts, especially in the gaming world.

  2. 8800 gt is better. it's a more powerful card even though it's older. just google it and you'll find out.

  3. ya the 9600gt is SUPPOSED to be a better card but its not if you can understand the specs between the card. people are fooled by buying the 9600gt over 8800gt. You're gonna waste your money on 9600gt.

  4. higher numbers is the way to go, unless you go truly over the top

  5. A 512 MB 8800gt (not the older 8800gt models) is better than the 9600gt.  Some benchmarks at:

If you are willing to get an ATI card, the Radeon 4850 is better than the 8800gt and doesn't cost that much more.

  6. Get the 8800GT. Why is the 8800GT better than the 9600GT you ask? The answer is all in the second number of the card. For example 8800GT has an 8 for the second number, but the 9600GT has a 6. This is sort of a ranking system. The higher the second number, the better the card. The 9-series cards are just revised versions of the 8-series. Nothing special. I would much rather go with the 8800GT.

  7. I say you go with the 9600, its much better.
