  1. The Mets will end up winning the division. They're finally leading again, and I don't think they could blow it again.

The Mets also have pitching. The Phillies starting rotation is a mess, I don't care about Joe Blanton, who the Mets tore up anyway. Cole Hamels is their only great starting pitcher, and he hasn't been that great this season anyway.

The Mets also have offense that can compete with the Phillies. Sure, the Phillies have Howard, Utley, and Rollins. But Howard is on pace to break the strikeout record. Utley is obviously slowing down, and probably won't have the energy to continue. Maybe in September, who knows. Jimmy Rollins isn't the guy he used to be, and it looks like 2007 wasn't real, I don't think he'll be able to put up 30 homers and 95 RBI a season from the lead-off spot.

Jose Reyes, who is absolutely on fire right now. He has already tied his 2007 total in homers, and will most likely pass his RBI total from last year - certainly on pace, too. Carlos Delgado is back, hitting homer after homer, (hit 2 last night). David Wright's a guy who's going to get you 20+ homers, 100+ RBI every season, he has since 2005. Carlos Beltran is the guy who needs to step up. I like our bench players as well.

The bullpen is really the only questionable thing for the Mets at this point.

  2. I like the Mets to win it. Here's why:

    PITCHING, PITCHING, PITCHING!

The Phillies pen has been very good thus far, but their starters are a disaster. Joe Blanton? Brett Myers? Come on now, other than Hamels they don't have much. Moyer is reliable as well.

Also, Jimmy Rollins seems to have let his MVP get to his head, he has been a huge disappointment so far. Also, Chase Utley got off to a torrid start, but has done nothing since.

With the Mets, Mike Pelfrey and Ollie Perez have been pitching much better. And Johan Santana has had some hard luck this year, but he has still pitched very well. John Maine is also solid. Jose Reyes has been having an MVP caliber year and David Wright is David Wright. Delgado has been on fire as well.

The Mets are 9-4 against the Phils this year.

  3. the mets are the better team, there is really not that much of a question, it will be close, but the mets have depth in their starters, and they will take off in september

  4. I think it would be safe to say that Washington wont lol.

That said, it is definitely a 3 team race. Of course excluding the over rated Braves.  I will say this it will be a good finish and rightfully so. Many think the Marlins will have it tougher, but perhaps they are more the steady team. Grant it their pitching could be better, but their offense and defense gets it done more so. Also 3 of the top 5 teams in ERA probably wont make playoffs ( Oakland, Toronto, Dodgers), so with that said, as much as pitching is key and wins in playoffs, getting to the playoffs is a different picture.  Keep in mind all 3 teams have similar records thus far within the division.  Philly is so up and down, and have to wonder about them, especially their pitching staff.  Mets have woken up as of late with both pitching and offense. Large put due to Pelfrey who has been awesome, and Maine seems to have settled down a bit, while Santana despite not racking up wins ( mostly due lack of run support or middle relief) still has a 3.05 ERA. Says alot. I have to give slight edge to Mets, and think this season will be heartbreakers for Philly as Philly was last year with Mets.

  5. First off, the Nationals won't. I'd bet like a billion bucks. They just don't have the talent to even really compete. I also think it's a safe bet the Braves won't, either. They have the talent, but a large part is either hurt or injured. I also can't see the Marlins winning the division. They certainly have a better shot than the Nats or Braves, but I think an overall lack of proven talent will catch up to them in the end. They will, however, make things really interesting.

This leaves, of course, the Mets and Phillies. I, personally, think the Phillies are the better team. Jimmy, Chase, and Ryan may be the three best all around players in what they do, both in the field and at the plate. However, talent doesn't always get it done. Their pitching has also been unreliable. Still, I can't pick the Mets. They collapsed last year and many of their players just seem sort of old: Delgado, Wagner, etc. So, I think it'll be really close, but here is what I predict:

Phillies, Mets 1 GB, Marlins 5 GB, Braves 10 GB, Nationals 16 GB

  6. The Mets, hopefully.

  7. If everybody was healthy on both the Mets and Phillies, and were having their career years, I would give a slight advantage to the Mets. I think that in real life the Mets have the advantage in their rotation, while the Phillies have a better bullpen and lineup. I think if Brett Myers turns around and Hamels and Blanton pitch as well as they can, the Phils will win the division. But the same thing could be said of the Mets. After they face each in a couple more series, ask again please.

  8. The Phils. I think they have the most talented team in the division as soon as they start to put everything back together like yesterday you won't be able to stop them. The Mets will start to falter again its only a matter of time. and By the way cameron i'm like the #1 Phillies fan and even i gotta say Howard is like the worst fielder in the MLB. Heres how the division will look.

Phillies, Mets 4GB, Marlins 6 GB, Braves 8 GB, Nationals 15.5 GB
