In the aftermath of the defeat, NAC boss John Karelse has expressed disappointment on his side’s poor performance and admitted that his troops failed to assert their authority in the opening half.
The Friesland outfit staged an impressive show at home in the first-half despite the visitors creating the first opening. However, the chance went begging, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brian-Vandenbussche-c8073.
On the other end, Filip Djuricic had the chance to break the deadlock in the 11th, but his effort hardly troubled the NAC goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jelle-ten-Rouwelaar-c18282.
Heerenveen continued to mount pressure and it paid them off eventually in the 34th minute. Rajiv van la Parra fed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bas-Dost-c7339 at the edge of the box, who in turn provided the ball to Djuricic, and the 20-year-old midfielder made no mistake in hitting the back
of the net from close range.
NAC came out better of the two sides after the half-time break, and Vandenbussche had to make a good save only two minutes into the second-half to keep his side’s lead intact.
The outfit from Breda had a perfect chance to level the score-line in the closing stages of the match, but Florian Jozefzoon’s effort went inches wide of the target and the home side grabbed all three points at the final whistle.
Karelse admitted that his side staged a far from pleasing show in the opening half.
“We played poorly in the first-half. We never put pressure on Heerenveen. In the second-half, we played better. We troubled Heerenveen and put consistent pressure, but we failed to capitalise”, Karelse was quoted as saying to NUsport.nl.
NAC are currently sitting 15th in the league table, six points clear of the 16th placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VVV-Venlo-c40915, who will lock horns against De Graafschap on Saturday, February 18.
