Question:

NASCAR Drivers Association?

Why is there no drivers association. Will Nascar not allow it. I realize it would be kind of a union, but that would solve the drug testing issue, and a few others. I guess the bad would be the possibility of a strike?

  1. The drivers really dont want it. I have heard a few mention it but nothing is ever done about it. If they did I dont think you would have to worry about a strike unless there was a real safety(life or death) issue that Nascar was being bull headed about. But for the most part Nascar and the drivers get along well and they have their appeal processes(grievances). The one good thing that a Union would help and thats put forth a pension fund for the drivers. The drivers back in the day didnt make a whole lot and had no insurance and stuff and I think a Union could be benefical to Nascar to a extent. Ive been a member of the Teamsters union for 16 years.

  2. A few drivers tried it in the late 50's and were banned from the races.  Nascar holds all the cards when it comes to their races.

  3. They tried it once back in the day, but, NASCAR came up with enough drivers for a race. I believe it had something to do with tires and the regular drivers didn't think they were safe.

  4. The drivers don't want it.
