David Pearson is one of the best drivers at stock car racing. The debate about the best ever driver is never complete without naming him. Seven- series champions Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt are also important names in the debate. Pearson is second to
Petty in the all-time winner’s list with 105 wins in 574 starts. He has won three seasons (1966, 1968, 1969) without running a complete schedule in his 27 years of racing.
Lee Petty played a role of driver and owner of his team claiming to be a champion on track as well as in the business world. The native of North Carolina was a racing idle the day he started competing in the series. He debuted at Charlotte in 1949 and went
on to become the first-ever three-time champion of the NASCAR series. He also founded the Petty Enterprises.
Bobby Allison was a tough driver behind the wheel as he knew his car inside out and often built his machines himself. Allison won two titles of NASCAR’s Special Modified Division in 1962-63. He followed it up by a double title of Modified Division in 1964-65.
He became dominant in the elite class of NASCAR by winning 84 races in the series. In the all-time win list, he is at level with Darrell Waltrip.
Ned Jarrett has earned the reputation of a gentleman driver for one generation of the NASCAR fans- scoring wins with his style. In his driving era, Jarrett has won the Late Model Sportsman titles in 1957-58, followed by title wins in the NASCAR premier series
in 1961 and 1965.
Walter ‘Bud’ Moore was a mechanic before becoming a championship car owner and a crew chief. Now he is the oldest member alive of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. His first championship victory was as a crew-chief with Buck Baker in the 1957 season.
