Question:

NASCAR Pitstop Question?

When the drivers come down pit road and turn into their stall do they take their feet off of the pedals? Or keep revving it to keep the car from dying. I was told they keep it revving but I'm not sure.

Bonus: Who wins at the Brickyard in 2008?

  1. the car is i neutral and they rev the engine before the wheels are replaced. thats why you see the pit crew waiting a second  before they change the tires. they rev after they have been replaced if they forget they might stall out

  2. They keep it rewing so they don't kill it!

    Tony Will Win !!!!!!!!!

  3. Who Wins Brickyard 08?   Tony Stewart for home state since Tony is from Indiana

  4. I think they keep it reved up some but not real sure about this!

I think Tony Stewart will be kissing the bricks again!! I'd like to see Jr do it but something tells me it's Tony's time!!

  5. WATCH THE REAR END ON A CAR THIS WEEKEND,AFTER THEY FINISH THE LEFT SIDE SVC. YOU'LL SEE THE TIRES JUMP THAT MEANS THEY HAVE PUT THE CAR BACK IN 1ST GEAR THEY ROLL IN AND KICK IT OUT OF GEAR AND KEEP ONE FOOT ON THE GAS AND ONE ON THE BRAKE,IF THE ENG.DIES IT TAKES TO LONG TO REFIRE IT,THAT COST POSITIONS

  6. Dont have a clue on the first question.

I would love to see Junior win it, but will be happy if Tony Stewart kisses the bricks again.  It is time for him to win!!!

  7. the old saying is wheels straight foot on the brake, so I guess the car is in neytral and they can rev with the other foot

    Brickyard winner...Kenseth!

  8. I would guess, foot on brake, in neutral, no excess revving, unless it is running bad.  I don't think so.

I think Tony has a good chance at taking the Brickyard...again!

    Go Jr.>>>>

  9. They keep it revved so the engine doen't stall.

Kyle Busch is hot right now, I'll say he wins it.

  10. they keep it reved up a couple 1000's

    i hope 88

    but 20 might

    no-no-no  no neutral

right foot brake and gas left foot clutch

you got to put your foot sideways toes on brake heel on gas

  11. The car is taking out of gear and the driver holds the brake and revs it up a little. When they let down the right side of the car he then puts it in gear with the clutch pressed and the brake. When the left side is let down, that is when he releases the brake and the clutch and gives it the gas.

  12. they keep it revving dogg...but also when the jack drops they take off as fast as they can (within the speed limit)...any advantage even if its small, can be the difference between 1st outta the pits and dead last.

Brickyard goes to Jeff G.  They've been testing and experimenting, now its CRUNCH TIME

P.S. when they switch to the "in-car cam" you could hear the engine..go RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! then BAM they're off

  13. That is why they peel out as soon as that car is down off the jacks.

I think Tony will take it this weekend.  But every race so far that I said Tony will take it...he doesn't.  :(

  14. I have heard them rev it up at times and other times not. I guess if they were running in tight packs when they were out on the track and their cars were running hot it's possible that the cars would be more likely to "stall" and maybe "vapor lock" thus losing time in the pits. Keeping it revved up would decrease the chances of that happening.

They have to hold their foot on the breaks when they change the tires so the wheels don't spin when they  tighten and loosen the lug nuts.

But I'm blonde and have ponytails so you might want a second opinion.

  15. They do rev the motors but not for the whole stop, just when the tire changers go to the right side. Their foot stays on the clutch and the car remains in first gear. Good question though. This is only what I remember from previous pit stops but I can be wrong.

Tony will win at the Brickyard, maybe Elliott...

  16. car is in neutral,  so when the jack man drops the jack the driver throws it in first and floors it to get to pit speed as fast as he can no revving during pit stop.

Kasey Kahne will be kissing them bricks!

  17. "wheels straight, foot on the brake"

Common line used by the crew chief when the car rolls into the box.  They dont have to keep the car running, but they will rev the engine before dropping the clutch upon exit.

As far as the brickyard - could be anybody.  Track position is key.  I guess the 20, 9, or 24
