NASCAR Sprint Cup season review
The NASCAR season 2010 is over, leaving behind the remembrance and memories of the amazing season from February to November. The NASCAR Sprint Cup was indeed the most thrilling and entertaining season for a long time going into the record
books.
Considering the tremendous thrill evolving in the Sprint Cup, all eyes were on the climatic rivalry between Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin. Kevin Harvick also joined the action every now and then but the overall star title should go to Jamie McMurray, winning
three major races. Jamie McMurray grabbed the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400 and the Bank of America 500. Jamie was also in leadership at the sprint Coca-Cola 600 and the one held at Talladega, where he finished a close second.
Denny Hamlin showed his high determination winning the race at Texas, when he had just come out of a knee surgery. Prior to this season, he holds to his name eight Cup races, bringing him to a key contender of the championship title with his immediate rival,
the four time title winner, Johnson. Kevin Harvick proved his guts well; winning three races with his fine positive drive and broke the 115 winless patch for Richard Childress racing, who had a disastrous 2009 season for them. Adding to his name are terrific
26 top-ten finishes, clawing himself in The Chase, where it should be kept in view that Richard Childress racing could not make it at all in the previous season.
Another driver who won three times was the inscrutable and totally unpredictable Kyle Busch. Kyle also had a fabulous season with thirteen wins in the Nationwide Series and six in the Camping World Truck Series to his name. Busch also won the Owner Points
title in the Truck series with a brilliant 22 wins across the season, for the young American driver. This was a record made for the most NASCAR wins in a season to his name. Kyle’s elder brother, Kurt Busch could only muster two wins across the season and
not able to make any impact in The Chase, after being dropped out of contention. Ryan Newman, Juan Pablo Montoya and David Reutimann also have a win apiece.
Another two-time winner in 2010 was Clint Bowyer, who had a win to his name. His companion, Carl Edwards had his winning streak in the last two races of the season, increasing his chances of a competitive season in 2011. Edwards also added to his name the
disastrous crash at Atlanta with Brad Keselowski, which held a lot of controversies that it was an intentional crash. Kase Kahne had his share of the drama while leaving the team. Richard Petty Motor-sports were disastrously in despair with their finances
stretched beyond allowance, with the enforced sale of Liverpool Football Club. This resulted in their lack of redemption to the financial settlement and not being allowed to get new cars after the Texas race, going into the Phoenix round. RPT shall be competing
in the 2011 season but with reduced support of only two cars.
The runner-up for season 2009, Mark Martin, failed to win even a single race this season, which was an upset to the fan following for a disappointing season 2010. Martin finished 13th in the overall points table. Hamlin certainly had his eyes
aiming straight to take the title from Johnson but somehow Johnson still managed to claw victory in The Chase. Based on these facts and the imprint that the racers have left, 2011 promises a tougher contest when Hamlin, McMurray, Harvick and Kyle Busch shall
aim to dethrone Johnson from the title. It’s the off-season after November but not for long. From 20th February, with Daytona 500, the season 2011 shall be on the go. Till then, it’s “happy holidays” to all.
