NASCAR- Stories of success and failure
NASCAR has given us stories to remember, with huge amount of money that is in the sport, as well as power. Not only this, it is the largest automobile racing in the world. Some have achieved greatness in the business, while others faced losses. There are so many stories relating to the lives of many people due to the long history of the sport.
Brian Francis, the current owner of NASCAR and the grandson of the founder is in the list of the achievers of NASCAR. His father Bill Francis Jr. brought the sport to new heights. Brain however thinks and makes the sport best in every possible way. The reason that he likes changes is one of the reasons why he is able to develop the sport to an exciting one as today.
Today, when the sport is facing the problem of declining viewership, he is taking steps to counter this problem. The style of managing isn’t liked by some but they have to accept it, as he is the BOSS.
Son of Lee Petty, a NASCAR champion, Richard Petty is a seven time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion. He is crowned the King of NASCAR. He was honoured on the occasion of his 200th win at the Daytona International Speedway. He became the owner of the Petty team after his retirement. However, the problems in the team have led to him becoming the spokesman of RMP. He without a doubt is the KING of NASCAR and shall remain at that throne forever.
Teresa, third wife of Dale Earnhardt Sr. thought she had it all but, as they say everything comes at a price. Dale had tied the record for seven Sprint Cup wins with Richard Petty. He managed all that was on track, while his wife Teresa drove him outside, in the business world. The price she paid for having all was the death of the love of her life. Dale was tragically killed in 2001 in Daytona International Speedway. She had to pay a heavy price and now remains involved with her private life though she still has control over the DEI and partners with Ganassi Racing.
Bruton Smith at the age of 18 began promoting races. Smith built the Charlotte Speedway in 1959. He was helped in his work by Curtis Turner, who also promoted it but later Smith went bankrupt. In the 70’s he regained control of the Speedway. The Speedway today is one of the nicest tracks of the modern schedule to race on. He has been greatly benefited from NASCAR and now is a billionaire. Smith at the age of 83 still is promoting races and remains an active part of the automobile industry.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. lost much after the death of his seven times Sprint Cup champion father, Dale Earnhardt Sr. mentioned above. Coupled with this, later his deteriorating ties with his step mother led him leaving the DEI. He moved to Hendrick Motorsports team to accomplish wins and the ultimate prize, the championship. 2009 was his worst season and promises were made to make things better in 2010. The son of a champion who wants to taste success has everything but till now has not succeeded in doing so and reaching the heights that his father reached.
The last in the list is Dave Blaney, one of those drivers who found success in other series before being a part of NASCAR. He and other drivers who he represents were used to of driving stock cars and winning but it’s not the case here in NASCAR. He and other such drivers now are a part of small teams. They don’t have the financial resources and the sponsorships to compete with the top lot of the NASCAR. They are part of teams that are owned by people who were previously part of the sport. Unfortunately, for these drivers the top lot has thrown a lot of money in the sport and therefore making drivers like him less prominent in NASCAR.
