NASCAR fans, do you care who the crew chief is on your team.?

Do fans in general care about the crew chief? Who he is or what his record is? Would he be the equivelant of a head coach in another sport?

Teams are only as good as the weakest link. Crew managers are imperative, if you have a sloppy team manager your crew becomes the weakest link. A driver needs a crew that works well together, is organized and quick.

Of course you have to care ! You have to get a crew chief that knows how to set the cars up for different tracks and weather conditions. A driver can only do so much with a bad car!

Yes I care.  And as much as I like the guy (Tony Jr), Dale Jr wouldn't be on a 75 race winless streak right now.  And he wouldn't have wrecked yesterday.  Tony Jr needs to learn that qualifying MATTERS.  You qualify decent, you don't end up in the back with the filler cars, you don't end up in their wreck.

Yes, he is like the whole coaching staff on a football team, driver-crew chief chemistry is IMPORTANT...a young driver and a veteran crew chief for instance are a good pairing because the veteran can reel in his young driver when need be...this is an example of chemistry...chemistry takes a long time to develop and it's tough to get back...it's developed by long relationships like Kenseth had with Robby Reiser and now he's with a new chief...now he trying to get that back...that is why some drivers are not as dominat as they were, they have not developed chemistry with crew chiefs yet.

A crew chief can make or break a driver. So yeah, I care, but not so much about records, if they can get the job done, they can get the job done.

they have to tell the driver what's going on.

they make alot of huge decisions for the team.

Of course I care about the crew chief on my team.  He is the man making the decisions.  Sometimes good then I love him and sometimes not so good and I have to resist the urge to throw things at my TV.  Yes is is equivelant to the head coach in other sports, the assistant coach and the defensive coach along with the special teams coach and even the team mascott all rolled into one guy.  So yes the crew cheif is extremely important to the team.
