  1. They are basically navy police on board ship and ashore.  They have the same duties civilian police have.  If you're in any branch of the miltary you're going to be where the action is but if your stationed on a ship you won't be "in" Iraq but somewhere in the gulf.  If you have shore duty you could stationed to any number of facilites and could quite possibly be in Iraq.   A policemans job is dangerous so I would say that there is always danger involved because your dealing with law breakers and criminals.

  2. its a shipboard or land based rate , so you could end up anywhere. Even as a guard at an Embassy. They are the shipboard police; h**l they even get the pleasure of overseeing when a guy takes a pizz-quiz. More than likely, you will be assigned to a ship, and chances are that that ship will end up in the Arabian Gulf/Red Sea or whatever they're calling it these days. It's pretty much a cake job, unless of course they start firing torpedoes or dropping bombs on your ship. There is a reason they call it the ARMED FORCES. Don't enlist, if your not ready to put your life on the line. If you want to pick a rate, that is congruent to the outside world, and one that will ensure your safety, try to pick a legal/JAG rate. You stand a better chance of staying on land, its not dangerous, and you wont have to work hard. There is still a chance you will end up on board a ship.

  4. it is kind of a policeman...

so if you decide to get out and not make the Navy a career later your job options outside will be very limited son...

I went for Machinist Mate, which made me a diesel master mechanic, hydraulic expert, pneumatic expert, etc...and eventualy help me in getting my engineering degree..

always think ahead a couple of moves otherwise you may get stuck in a dead end road....

  5. In the coast guard, our MA's are mixed up tith BM's GM's MK's and MST's. But our job is 3 time more dangerous. All the MA's i've met are MIlitary Police. You'll be checking ID's at the gates and doing police work around the bases. I would assume thier being deployed to IRAQ is just as good as anyone elses.

in the CG the is making a new rating to merge all of those into one specific job. But you board vessles and do inspections and enforce maritime law in ports all over the US and some parts of the world, including Iraq. (Yes, the CG is in Iraq)
