  1. I'd think that it would just be a matter of whether you want to join the Navy or the Army.  Wouldn't imagine that either has better training than the other when it comes to construction skills.  SeaBees have different rates that work on different types of construction, and different phases of construction, the Army likely has different construction MOS's comparable to the ratings in the Navy.

  2. Equally both.  There is no military branch of the Armed Forces that sit back and watch the other get deployed.  Regardless if you have the MOS as an Origami Specialist, you will be deployed whether as a grunt or supporting arms.

Navy Seabees are active duty whereas Army Carentry and Masonry Specialist (Army has those?) I believe are in the Army Corps of Engineers [I maybe wrong].  Never heard of such Army job.

If you are interested in the Combat Engineering field.  Why not become a Marine Combat Engineer.  Become a Marine like the rest of us!!  However....Navy Seabees can build us an airfield quicker than I have ever seen!  They can build up a naval port just in days.  They can build us a bridge so our logistics can support the Marine Infantry.

Army carpentry?  Now why would you want to build houses when you get to live in a shelter-half tent?  Don't think you'll have to worry about the big bad wolf blowing down your home when you are a Navy Seabee, Marines will scare them away!!

If you want to build houses as in a humanitarian effort, you can do that regardless of holding the job field.  I volunteered to help rebuild houses for many people that needed homes.  Plus, Navy Seabees and Marine Combat Engineers get to play with explosives!  Demolition is pretty cool, that is, if not used in combat.  Combat is not pretty nor something that we wish for.  I am not into maiming people, as it is illegal to use heavy weapons against our adversaries anyways.  (you'll get court-martialed for using a M2 .50 cal as a primary weapon when not used as the 'last resort'-funny right?  That is because of the Geneva Accord!)

  3. rule of thumb

NAVY & AIR FORCE for training

    ARMY & MARINES for killin

  4. you forgot the marine corps combat engineers baby!!! whoo!!! you see, the other branches have one guy who does explosives, one to do construction, another to search for ied's and mines, another who will put up a secure perimeter, and one grunt whose job it is to watch their sorry a$$e$ while they're doing all this c**p. a combat engineer does all these things and several more. engineers lead the way. oorah!?!
