NBA All-Star exhibition game facing logistical issues – NBA Update
The lockout is apparently settling down for a long time and fans are thirsty to see the basketball stars playing on the court. The Drew League versus Goodman League is the last chance for the fans to see the multiple All-Stars together on the same floor. However, this remaining prospect is also trembling over with some complications.
The complications have also arisen because of the lockout, as players do not get insurance claims during the work stoppage. This exhibition game is scheduled to take place in Washington D.C on August 20.
Drew League commissioner Dino Smiley said he is still "99.9 percent sure [the game in Washington, D.C., will happen] unless some hiccups pop up," but it still requires a lot of work in order to put up the show.
According to one agent, player’s dairies do not include the clause “For Love of the Game” therefore they require a separate policy that can cover their insurance, so they can take part in the exhibition game.
In order to overcome the financial hurdle, the organizers are taking some strong steps. At the moment there are negotiating terms with broadcasting companies and are looking to generate enough revenue to cover the cost of the player’s insurance. Usually the Drew and Goodman have a free entry on the weekends, but since the All-Stars are listed to play in this game, so authorities will charge the fans for this game from $25 to $60.
The players are so scared over the injury concerns that they are not ready to take any risk by playing even abroad without an insurance policy. So how can it be possible that they will play in an exhibition game without any insurance. No player is ready to bear his injury expenses from his own pocket, especially in this hour of uncertainty when no one knows how long the lockout will last.
The problem just did not end here, in addition to the insurance policy there are also some serious concerns over the sponsorship that is going to bear the travel and lodging expenses of the players. In order to help the organizers it is necessary for the players to consider playing without the insurance and pay for their hotel room and car service.
Despite all the issues, if the organizers and players were able to pull off this exhibition game then surely it will not jut provide great entertainment, but also provide a great opportunity to see the players in action. However, the way things are going in this summer there is less chance of fun.
