NBA BREAKING NEWS: Lance Stephen arrested for assaulting his girlfriend Jasmine Williams.
Indiana Pacers draft pick Lance Stephenson was arrested on Tuesday after he reportedly hit his girlfriends’ head against a concrete step after pushing her down the stairs.
According to the authorities, Lance pushed Jasmine Williams at 5 a.m. Witnesses told the press that Lance had been waiting for her and as Jasmine entered the apartment building with two of her friends, he screamed and said “are you kidding me?” before pushing her down ten stairs.
The New York Police told the press that Jasmine is being treated for possible head and neck injuries. The official complaint that was launched against the 19-year-old Pacer stated that while Jasmine was lying flat at the end of the stairs, Lance came rushing down and picked her head up and slammed it on the last step.
When the police arrived at the scene, Lance told prosecutors that Jasmine had tripped and had fallen down the stairs. Alberto Ebanks, Stephenson’s Attorney told the press that the charges against his client were serious and that they are looking to address the charges against Lance appropriately.
Alberto also stated that Lance Stephenson “did not maliciously, intentionally or in any other way cause harm to Jasmine Williams.”
Former Basketball legend Larry Bird who is now the President of the Indiana Pacers said “the news of Lance Stephenson’s arrest is very disappointing to the Pacers franchise and to me personally. We have worked very hard to bring in players that are excellent representatives of our franchise, community and state both on and off the court.”
Lance Stephenson played for the University of Cincinnati last year along with Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn before joining the NBA. He was picked by the Indiana Pacers as the 40th pick in round two of 2010 NBA drafting season. Stephenson was dropped in the first-round pick due to legal issues.
Lance was one of the highest paid college prospects to make his way into the league last year when he scored 21 points and snared 4 rebounds with 3 assists against the Orlando Magic.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told the press that Stephen had appeared in the Brooklyn Criminal Court and was released on his own recognizance on Monday.
